Christmas has come early with ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas: Sing-Along Edition’ on Blu-ray

Disney is re-releasing a popular classic, but going all out for it with exclusive editions!

The Nightmare Before Christmas was released in theaters on October 29th, 1993, and was a box office success; grossing $75 million on an $18 million budget; as well as being a critical success. The Nightmare Before Christmas remains to be popular after its initial theatrical release, if not more. From annual 3D theatrical reissues, park presence, continued merchandise seller; you name it! The Nightmare Before Christmas remains as one of Disney’s popular one-off film, despite being released as a Touchstone release, but since been re-labelled as a Disney release in later years. I guess the relabel just shows this film’s tremendous popularity.

While Disney in recent years have since diminish their catalog releases (we still have five Walt Disney Animation Studios films that still don’t have a Blu-ray release yet!), and care more about their new releases. Since Gravity Falls was released, Disney seems to care more about their older content, and this is where The Nightmare Before Christmas comes in.

There’s no word yet on new special features, but one has to wonder if the special features will be the same as the 2008 release. As of writing, I can’t find any mentioning or listing for bonus content, but if I do I’ll update this post just under this section. However, at least Disney is offering some exclusive editions for fans to get their hands on. Whether you are double dipping or a new adopter, the burning question for any collector is – which edition is for me? Luckily, we have the wide range of exclusive editions below. Please keep note that this is for the American release.

The Standard Release

These two are the standard Blu-ray (left) and DVD (right) covers that are available at your local retailer. This cover looks utterly beautiful, and personally much better than the 2D Blu-ray release in 2008. However, it is frustrating for the words “Sing Along Edition” imprinted on the front cover, considering it should really say “Anniversary Edition” like the Hocus Pocus re-release. The Blu-ray is scheduled for a September 2nd release, while the DVD is already available for purchase.

Target Exclusive Edition

For the hardcore fans, this Target exclusive Blu-ray release sports an amazing front cover, along with a 40 page gallery book included with this release. This set is exclusive to Target and is scheduled for a September 2nd release.

Best Buy Exclusive Edition

Nightmare Before Christmas Steelbook
via Best Buy

However, if gallery books aren’t your thing! You do have an option for a Blu-ray steel-book that glows in the dark! This set is exclusive to Best Buy and is scheduled for a September 2nd release.

This post may update!
